Super Fights and Summer Nights

Tyler:

Welcome back to the last, last podcast. No. Last Boy Scouts podcast. We don't even remember the name. It feels like it's been too long.

Danny:

It has been a while. Too long. Yeah. Last episode was with Jeremy.

Tyler:

Last episode was with Jeremy. And you responded. Yeah. Lots of people wanted to know who he was.

Danny:

Yeah. He was he he did a good job, man. He was stoked about that. I often wonder if, like, you know, we we gotta eventually have to hire if one of our friends, if somebody out there can help us with social media.

Tyler:

Oh, I know.

Danny:

I don't you know, I think, like, we could do a better job. I feel like there's always better that we can do.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

That's one of those things where, like, I I wish I knew more about to help grow our platform because he is is such a unique individual, and I wanna give more attention to his platform because he does not care about what you think, but he but but but he cares. The content is cool. Yeah. Right? And I thought that that episode was such a good one, man.

Danny:

Like, I

Tyler:

was stoked about that. So terrific. Just to hear his story, and we're gonna have a couple more coming up. Yeah. Hopefully obviously, you see we're not in the bus.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Yeah. Bus. I just got out of the bus. I just got out of the bus. 10 days in the bus.

Danny:

So kinda hit that today. Yeah. Let's see. We had Do

Tyler:

you wanna start there, or do you wanna start at summer camp?

Danny:

Let's talk about summer camp. Yeah. Let's talk about summer camp. What a great time,

Tyler:

Oh oh my gosh.

Danny:

Dude, that was insane.

Tyler:

It was such a great weekend.

Danny:

It really was. There was so many, high points and so many, like, cool things that happened. The super fights were insane, dude. Oh, absolutely. Yeah.

Danny:

There was everybody showed up to compete.

Tyler:

Just a great vibe. Like, walking in Friday, just a great vibe to the room and, like, to the academy people

Danny:

Yeah.

Tyler:

That helped. I mean, I can't imagine the level of work that Mike and Mona and the crew put into it, but like, it was top notch. The check-in experience was smooth. I almost wore the t shirt. I wanted to wear the t shirt.

Tyler:

I was worried you were gonna wear the t shirt. You're gonna have matching t shirts on YouTube.

Danny:

We should've told you. I you know what? Unfortunately, man, I got I was so busy throughout the day and busy throughout the night that I ended up not getting a T shirt, and, they had ran out by the time that I Oh, no. Went. So, hopefully, you know, Mona's so good to me, and, hopefully, she put one aside to show.

Danny:

So leading up to the day, you could feel the buzz. Yeah. I walked into the mat to Tristan and James, the guy that fought Davy Mhmm. Training.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

And, dude, they were trying to kill each other.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

They were trying to kill each other, and I was thinking, Tripp, slow down. Today.

Tyler:

Slow down.

Danny:

But Yeah. You know, they were both, like and me and Mike were watching them and just the vibe. I really believe that everybody took it seriously. Mhmm. It was friendly.

Tyler:

Oh, yeah.

Danny:

Air quotes. But it also had some meaning behind it. Right?

Tyler:

Yeah. So let's recap all the fights. The first fight was Blake and

Danny:

Tripp. He the Tripp, Pittman. Pittman. Yep. And, dude, their level of jiu jitsu, they ended up going to overtime because the the level of jiu jitsu that those young kids

Tyler:

Textbook. Textbook. Let that the the guillotine, like, he threw his arm

Danny:

over. Over.

Tyler:

Oh, and the most amazing thing, like, I don't know if it was, like, intended, but having master Sour show up, Pedro Sour show up, was I don't know if was he he just kinda showed up.

Danny:

So there was, you know, giving some things away. I knew in Florida that there was a high possibility that he was gonna be there Good. When when I had, you know, because he

Tyler:

came to Florida.

Danny:

Yeah. Oh, okay. And so I knew it. There was some you know, you don't wanna give everything away, but, if you didn't see the video, yeah, like, just to recap that, not to go backwards, but, we put the, 4th, 5th, 6th degree black belts on the table. Mona set that up.

Danny:

And, dude, the way she set that up, place cards, she had, master sour in the middle. And, it's a remake kind of of of an old seminar with Helio Gracie where, Pedro fights a couple guys and Hicks and Gracie is the, ref. And it's kind of what that was kind of the idea behind the whole thing. Right? Mhmm.

Danny:

And you're right. When it came together, man, it was like, this is this is, like, surreal that this is happening. Yeah. The walkouts were perfect. Right?

Danny:

So fun. Blake and Tripp Pittman, Blake, Blake Hallett and Tripp Pittman are young young kids. They're I think they're 12 11 years old, and, dude, they were showing some killer Just killer jiu jitsu. Textbook.

Tyler:

Like, just textbook jiu jitsu.

Danny:

Killer jiu jitsu. They went into overtime, and I think Blake won by, first points in overtime was just Yeah.

Tyler:

The takedown. And it was like, they put their heart into it. Like, you see these kids, they well up. They don't wanna lose.

Danny:

Yeah.

Tyler:

Right? And it would have been whoever, you know, whoever lost would have welled up. You know? And they put it out there. They put it out there.

Tyler:

I had a I had a good time because Cozy, my youngest came and watched all the fights, and I was like, hey. They're your age.

Danny:

Yeah. They're your fish.

Tyler:

She's like, that's not gonna make me wanna do jujitsu. Oh, no. I'm like, no. But, you know, just know that they are they're your age.

Danny:

Yeah. You know? Next up was London and man, I'm, I'll look at my notes. Let me look at my I'm gonna grab Charlie. Charlie.

Danny:

Alright. Charlie was with us in the academy for, like, 3 days.

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

He came and hung with us and trained with us. He was

Tyler:

a fun train. Yeah.

Danny:

He was a great train.

Tyler:

He was he was awesome. Yeah. Just a fun, very

Danny:

flowy roller and, like

Tyler:

Yeah. Tough kid.

Danny:

Tough kid.

Tyler:

Yeah. Carolina, I think.

Danny:

No. No. No. I think he was from, headquarters. I think he was from Virginia.

Danny:

Virginia?

Tyler:

I knew he was back east. I knew he was back east.

Danny:

Back east. They might be in front of Georgia even.

Tyler:

Like Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

Who knows? But, man, they flew in a couple days, hung out with us. Him and his brother trained with us. Their mom was awesome. And London ended up winning, I believe, by submission on that one.

Danny:

And, again, 2 kids that are young, teen, 2 belts that are like hammers. Yeah. And I've trained with London before, and he is tough.

Tyler:

They both both I trained I trained with Charlie Friday morning, just kinda moved with him. Like, not really using any any any weight, but he he he submitted me twice. Like, just just good, like, moves, Just solid jujitsu. Getting to be he just he can move better than me. Obviously, he's got that youth.

Danny:

Yeah.

Tyler:

And then, of course, I've rolled with London before too and just just a powerhouse.

Danny:

They're killers. Yeah. And then, my Tristan Tripp and Paul, they competed and it was fireworks. It was just It was fireworks from the beginning. Mhmm.

Danny:

They Tristan ended up pulling guard, and they went to the ground. They got into a weird scramble. He caught Paul in a triangle.

Tyler:

That was so tight.

Danny:

Dude, he had that thing, and Paul is so tough. He is so tough because he turned. And I even thought when he turned, he's like, oh, man. He's giving his arm, but he turned. And when he turned, Tristan's feet got stuck behind him and the and the triangle opened.

Danny:

Paul snatched on his foot, toe folded him, and, trip tapped, like like Yeah. Rightfully so. You know? You never Yeah. We talk about this a lot with, feet with legs.

Danny:

And I had an interesting conversation with, I believe it was either Lamau or Rylan, and they were like, you know, at the young kids' level up until your, you know, you're in your thirties, you should avoid the leg lock game as much as possible because you can really mess up your ankles. You can mess up your feet. You can mess up your knees. And that stuff stays with you for

Tyler:

a while.

Danny:

So if you if you develop your game and then get into leg lock and and trip tap, you know, that was tight when he when, Paul caught that toe fold, it was it was very tight, and I was proud. The trip didn't try to Yeah. You know, show anything because then you're then you you never know what's gonna happen with it with it with those kind of joint locks.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

So shout out to Paul. He's tough. I trained with him the next day, and he kicked the crap out of me.

Tyler:

Still young?

Danny:

Yeah. Yeah. Young buck? Yeah. I mean, these guys are bucks.

Danny:

So, yeah, Tripp is 20, and I believe Paul's, like, 33, 34 years old. He's and and just man, such a good kid. Him and Tripp at the end, they both, like, shook hands, hugged. They were they were stoked with each other. Then we had, I believe, Kenny and Roman?

Danny:

Roman. Dude, Roman is a monster.

Tyler:

He he's like what you would expect. Like, he's just just chiseled.

Danny:

He is

Tyler:

Roman god. Like, literally Roman god, like, statue. Like

Danny:

And Kenny did well. Kenny

Tyler:

fought well.

Danny:

He ended up, putting Kenny to sleep. And, dude, when Kenny woke up,

Tyler:

he was just like,

Danny:

what in the world just happened? Right? So, you you know, like like I said, they took it seriously. And and Yeah. Man, Kenny going against Roman.

Danny:

Kenny fought well. Roman is huge. And, you know, I, man

Tyler:

Little youth on Kenny too. Yeah. What do they say, like, youth wise? It's it's like a couple about, like you know what I mean?

Danny:

Like, if you start training at a young age, then you're you know, and you make it to a blue belt, you man, blue belt is a

Tyler:

Right.

Danny:

I mean, you we've tried with Tim. Tim's a green belt, and, man, that kid's he's a snake.

Tyler:

He's probably closer. Like, you you know what I mean? Like, just his youth kinda just adds a couple extra belt, like, stripes to his belt. Like, he maybe hasn't earned them jiu jitsu wise, but, like, there's just something about that youth that gives you a little bit more energy, a little bit more pep.

Danny:

Sure. A little

Tyler:

bit more go.

Danny:

And and just position wise, when you start to realize your position is so much better than, you know, us laymans that started so late in life. Their position is that's one thing I noticed about Tim, London, and some of those younger kids, Tripp. Some of those younger kids when you train with them, they don't have the man strength, but their technique is on them.

Tyler:

Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

Right? Their hands placement, their knee placement, their foot placement, everything goes well. So like I said, Roman submitted Kenny. Next up was Kim and Hannah. And, dude, those girls, it was so exciting because it kinda got the broom buzzed.

Danny:

Yeah. Yeah. Like, wow. Each match was starting to, like, really gain steam on top of the other ones. And and it's really hard to sell jujitsu fights to non jujitsu players because there's so much technique that happens Mhmm.

Danny:

That we see that we're like, oh, that was awesome.

Tyler:

Yeah. You

Danny:

know, you get out of them a submission. You you you you snatch something from a position that you're like, oh, I know that where there's no punching, there's no striking, so you don't see damage until all of a sudden you're like, oh, Kim's tapping. Yeah. Triangle to an armbar. It was beautiful.

Danny:

Yeah. Beautiful. And they both fought so well. They were, like, amazing women. I trained with Kim.

Danny:

I trained with Kim, a lot to to lead up to this fight because, we're roughly same size, and she needed good solid training. So I was heading down to Lehigh, you know, once, twice a week just to make sure that she got good training. Hannah, tough. She is she's tough as shit. Yeah.

Danny:

She is so tough, and and she was so they were such good you know, they they shook hands. They hugged, and and they were, like, kind to each other. You know?

Tyler:

Yeah. It's good sportsmanship.

Danny:

But all around sportsmanship.

Tyler:

Like, I there wasn't there wasn't a single bit of really bad blood

Danny:

that I felt.

Tyler:

I mean, yes. In the match, it's like every man for himself, but, like, sure. At the end of the day, like, everybody was everybody was high on jujitsu

Danny:

at the end of the night. Then Yep. Here we go.

Tyler:

Get into some black belts. No. No. We didn't. No.

Tyler:

But I'm I

Danny:

mean, the best the the biggest secret that I think of the whole entire event was, Nick Jacks and Billy Buss.

Tyler:

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Two brown belts.

Danny:

Two brown belts. The brown belts. The same size, exactly the same weight, exactly the same age, and exactly the same level of jitsi. Right? 4 stripe brown belts.

Danny:

I've trained with both of those guys a bunch of times, and they literally have the same game. Yeah. They want to smush you into the ground, make your life hell, never let you really almost, like, submit you, but then go back to something because that hurts. Even worse, Nick Jacks, he's not afraid to put his knee on your face and just hang out there till the round is over. Yeah.

Danny:

He he he really forges us into steel. Oh, yeah. He forges our entire academy into steel, and everybody talks about the fact that, like, he is the dude. He is the enforcer.

Tyler:

Yep.

Danny:

He is the brown belt enforcer. He is if you come to the academy and you have, a little bit of go, you go with Nate Jackson. Yep. He's like, okay. You have no more go.

Danny:

That people walk off the mat like, that is a monster.

Tyler:

Yes.

Danny:

He is a a a monster.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Billy, I've trained with him. Yeah. Same exact feeling. Yeah. There literally is 2 of the same feelings.

Danny:

And they fought to almost right up until the round was open.

Tyler:

Yeah. There was, like, seconds. I was running the clock. I didn't couldn't always see the clock, but I was running the clock. I think it was like there was, like

Danny:

Seconds.

Tyler:

Yeah. Because

Danny:

I remember saying to Nick, you got about a minute. You got about a minute. Again, we trained Nick and I trained a ton, cardio. We've you know, we would do rounds where I was like, I'm not tapping to a single thing you do to me. I don't care what happens unless it's a joint lock where I you know, I gotta save myself, but I ain't tapping to no chokes.

Danny:

I'm not tapping to your to meanness. I'm not tapping to any of that stuff. And and we'd get done, and he'd and he'd be like, thank you. I needed that. Yeah.

Danny:

He fed a choke with the ghee, cross choke, and ended up getting the tap. Everybody goes wild. They go crazy. Professor Curran comes out, and he has a black belt for, Billy. Mhmm.

Danny:

Next thing I know, professor pulls out a black belt for Nick. And, dude, everybody went rough. Yeah. It was wild.

Tyler:

If you follow me on social media, I posted the last hop. I I was so stoked on it. I was like, oh, man. I gotta get my camera out. Finally got the end of it out and, you know, professors tying the belt around Nick.

Tyler:

And then of to have all people of all people there

Danny:

Pedro comes out.

Tyler:

Comes out

Danny:

It jokes him.

Tyler:

And get you know, congratulates them both

Danny:

Congrats, man. On a

Tyler:

on a, you know, a good fight and and, you know, kind of just adds the, like the, the cherry on top of that. Like if I could imagine getting my black belt,

Danny:

That'd be the way. That would

Tyler:

be like the storybook way that I'd wanna get it that I'd wanna get my black belt. Right? Like, they those guys, both of them have worked incredibly hard. I mean, you know, Billy has been since I've been in the academy 3 years, like, he's he's been this isn't his first time in town. Right?

Tyler:

Like He

Danny:

comes early.

Tyler:

And he's been up to Florida and, you know, he's he's and and Nick is always, you know, at the the academy. These guys have put in the work.

Danny:

Put in the work.

Tyler:

They've put in the work.

Danny:

And, you know, Nick came to us as a purple belt, came to Professor as a purple belt. And I remember thinking, like, this dude is really, really a monster. Yeah. What he's added to just our academy alone is, like, invaluable. And now, you know, now we claim him as ours.

Danny:

Like, we claim him as ours, and I hope he always sticks around or always, like, comes in and hangs out with us. He's got some things that he's working on that, you know, you know, selfishly, I hope

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Don't quite work out, and he sticks around. And you see in those 2 get their black belts like that, you're right. It it it makes you go, man, what a cool thing we're a part of. Right?

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

What an amazing thing. And and and you you think you think, is that the top of this competition? Is that the top? Did we just now have this eruption? Now we're gonna have let downs.

Danny:

Yeah. Right? And

Tyler:

Now we get Now we get to the black belt. Now we end the black belt.

Danny:

Let's start. Right? And so we have Davey Gorham and Jimmy Green do a no gi match. Mhmm. And, dude, they were spinning around.

Danny:

They were unlocking legs. They were locking legs. They were on they were doing all this crazy stuff that I was like, I don't know how they keep track

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Of what where they were at. And just a quick thing, like so Davey ended up submitting Jimmy with a hill hook, and the next day, they both analyzed I was listening I was talking to Jimmy, and he analyzed exactly what happened as if he was a scientist that had just almost got the the the lab the lab result he wanted Oh, yeah. But didn't quite. And then to listen to Davey analyze it, and he got the lab result that he wanted. And it was like, these 2 dudes were talking about all these leg entries and all these different little different techniques of, like, defending it.

Danny:

Or if you would have just done this with your knee, if you declared your knee knee line earlier, and and we were like, I am Oh, okay. The next day, they ended up going back out there talking about, you know, in front of everybody, like, how they could have cleared it and how Jimmy could have cleared it easier and not been submitted. But he said, oh, I I did clear it correctly, and then I stuck it back in. And he's like, I don't know why I did that. I I I cleared it correctly, and then for some reason, right back in.

Danny:

And then he caught him with the hill hook. And I was like, what in the world? How are these 2 dudes? Yeah. And then we had, Zach?

Danny:

Zach and James.

Tyler:

Mhmm.

Danny:

It's James, Finisio, and Zach. Oh, man.

Tyler:

It's it's a it's a big one.

Danny:

Yeah. And my brain farted. He's a he he he's a black belt that coaches down in Lehigh. It'll come to me. And, yeah, those 2 dudes are ginormous.

Danny:

Yeah. They're so big, dude. I was so surprised on how well they did with each other. Right. You know?

Danny:

And, like, there's so many little things that are happening as black belts that I'm like, I don't man, like, in when I'm training, I understand a lot of things. You know? Like, I'm starting to understand a lot more things. But when I'm watching certain black belt stuff that I'm like, I have no idea what they're doing. Yeah.

Danny:

I have no idea. I I'm so lost. Yeah. I'm confused on this.

Tyler:

Yeah. And And what's interesting too is, like, all of the competitors did really well for the altitude. You know, we're training above 7,000 feet.

Danny:

Yep. For sure.

Tyler:

You know, you would think that would give, you know, maybe that was the advantage to some people like perhaps Nick Jacks, just cause this is his home altitude, you know, coming from sea level, But like the, this is where you really kind of saw the competitors, like both competitors, Lehigh's, you know, few thousand people low Park City, but these are the first two competitors where you kinda saw that the elevations kind of

Danny:

impact making adjustments to their gear Yeah.

Tyler:

To adjust things down.

Danny:

For the elevation, and they both were, like, slowing things down. And, James ended up getting the submission on that one as well. Again, both of those guys, like, speaking to them, they were both, like, so cordial and so, like, after the fight, so, like, nice to each other. They were, like, talking things about what happened during the match to each other, and I was, like, listening to him again. And I was like, man, this is amazing.

Danny:

You know? And and and like I said, it's from a jiu jitsu's perspective. We were all so excited about it, and things were running so smoothly. Right? Yeah.

Danny:

And you're like, man, is there ever gonna be a hiccup, or what's gonna happen? There was so much anticipation for each match. So much anticipation. So much anticipation. So much anticipation.

Danny:

So much anticipation. Anticipation. And then what a crazy way to finish. Yeah. Then we have

Tyler:

Well, we should we should back up, and and the gentleman that won, he ended up getting his 3rd degree.

Danny:

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.

Tyler:

He got his 3rd degree after Yeah. Or the before the weekend was over.

Danny:

Yeah. It was, I'm I'm I'm such a knucklehead. I'm on the mic, and I you people are like, hey. Call James back up here. Call James back up here.

Danny:

And I'm like, no. Not into the mic. I'm just yelling James. Yelling at him, James. And he kinda looks at me like, what?

Danny:

Matt, why are you screaming at me? And I was like, James, we need you to come back up up here. Somebody said to me, I think it was you and Patrick, use the microphone. Dude, it was so funny. I was like, my brain you know, because I'm doing all the announcing.

Danny:

I'm, like, trying to keep the crowd going. I'm

Tyler:

You're also managing the time and who's going on the fights and making sure people are staged and, like

Danny:

Making sure the walkout goes correctly. Right. Because one of the one of the things that we talked about is, like, don't start your walkout too early. I will tell you when to go. I will give you a nod when it's time to go because we wanna your music to play.

Danny:

Yeah. And if if not, you're this is gonna look silly. We want this to be like a legit production. Yeah. Right?

Danny:

So, yeah, James ended up getting his 3rd stripe. Master Sour again gave that to him. That was awesome. We had that time to to, let that happen, and he was stoked. He ended up, Yeah.

Danny:

It was it was cool. He was he he he he was he was really, really appreciative of that, and I thought that was cool, man. Like, what a cool way to get your to get a stripe and to get, your progress on the mat like that. Right? And then the last 2.

Danny:

The last 2. Bill and Anthony. And this match had some hype behind it because, Anthony is our guy. He is our he is he is the epitome of what you you look for in a monster black belt. He's not Nick Hallett.

Danny:

He's not flashy. He crunches you. He smooshes you. He if you are not doing what he want, if you are not training well, if you are not doing well, he's grumpy. He he is he means it from his heart.

Danny:

He's kind. Mhmm. He is so kind to us and so scary looking and so intimidating. Yes. And when you seen Bill, he had the exact

Tyler:

same look.

Danny:

Yeah. He had the same personality almost. It was like, this guy means business.

Tyler:

And I love that he comes out to no music. He came

Danny:

out to no music. Just

Tyler:

business. He came out on business.

Danny:

It was like no music. Everybody was like, this is insane. And you could feel the buzz. Jiujitsu buzz. And so then Anthony comes out to this opera music that is, like, insane.

Danny:

He comes out. He's got ponytails. He is looks the part.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

It was almost like this is, like, staged

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

For these 2 dudes. They come out, and when they shake hands, it's like thunder.

Tyler:

It was clash of the titans.

Danny:

There was one time when I think it was shared on Instagram. Bill sweeps Anthony, holds him down, kinda put some weight on him, and then you just see Anthony, like, nope, comes up, and they both look at each other like, yep.

Tyler:

Okay.

Danny:

We're here. We're here. You know?

Tyler:

I mean, to me, that was amazing. There was another such like, part I remember, like, he floated Anthony a little bit, and I've never, like I'm not the per guy to, like,

Danny:

he he

Tyler:

to do that to Anthony. You know what I mean? Like, I know the power Yeah. That he has behind Anthony has behind him. Like, it's I have nothing but respect for it.

Tyler:

But to see that, I was just like, it was insane.

Danny:

Yeah. He Anthony ends up taking Bill down and submits him.

Tyler:

Mhmm.

Danny:

And, dude, how loud did things get?

Tyler:

Oh, it it just erupted.

Danny:

It did. Yeah. It was insane how loud that was. It it was an it was such a fun end of the night. There were so many more things that happened, the presentations of of some of the awards, Tony talking, the the the the master sour coming out and giving us such a great speech, giving us, like, such good advice, such good information of how he how happy he was, how excited he was for these guys to compete the way that they did.

Danny:

Because at the end of the day, like I always say, you know, old people have to do their job. You you the person that wins has to do their job. The person that loses has to do their job. They both have to go out there, compete, do their job. Somebody's gonna win, somebody's gonna lose, but it doesn't matter.

Danny:

You're you're going to do your job. And the fact that we had so many people come up to us and go, amazing. Amazing. Amazing. I can't believe you guys pulled this like this.

Danny:

This was unreal. It it made me so excited and so stoked for the next events that fills my jiu jitsu cup. And Yeah. The instructions the next couple of days were Oh. Unreal.

Tyler:

Unbelievable instructions.

Danny:

We had so much instruction, so much jiu jitsu, so much training, so much hanging out. I was not able to hang out that much on Saturday like I'd like because I had so much to get ready for

Tyler:

The trip.

Danny:

The trip. And the trip, you know, is there there's gonna be times where I'm gonna tell you, like, I I can't remember everything about the trip, but I can remember, like, so many things of what happened with Misty and I. We'd like to still thank, Jitsi rings. Yeah. We appreciate, Jitsi rings.

Danny:

They, so I still have my purple belt one. People still you can't quite see it. It's faded really bad, but it kinda keeps it helps keep track of your, progress, but I wear my ring. I I know Preston wears his ring. Yep.

Tyler:

I see

Danny:

a lot of people with their rings around. It's the color of your belt. Yep. You can get them with stripes. Yep.

Danny:

Of course, Highlife Breathing.

Tyler:

Yep.

Danny:

That's me, and, I help with breathing, stretching. Yeah. We have the we're we're still looking for more sponsorship.

Tyler:

For more sponsors.

Danny:

We're still

Tyler:

looking for more sponsors. Just really grateful to be in this space and and for those people that that listen. You know, we are a 100% self funded in the podcast. 100%. We've got Jitsi rings.

Tyler:

We like you said, we promote the things we like. We don't necessarily take money for these these promotions. We you know, that's why we're a big proponent for, you know, pushing jujitsu and and pushing our academy out there. If you hear this and come into the academy and mention us, please, just just so people know.

Danny:

And you help you you do such a good job with the the men that you're helping and Yeah. And and your little practice that you have going on.

Tyler:

We've well, we'll get to because I've got some we got the couple other big announcements, but I wanna hear about the trip, the trip to end all trips.

Danny:

The trip to end all trips. So a little bit of backstory. You know, I have that we we have the bus that we podcast out of. That's my personal

Tyler:

Cobble the bus.

Danny:

Cobble the bus. It's a 1973 VW transport type 2 bus. Yep. It's got a high roof, so it's rare. It it performed unreal.

Tyler:

How many miles?

Danny:

So we ended up with just under 1500 miles Oof. Of travel.

Tyler:

1500 miles. 1500.

Danny:

Because, part of the thing with the part of the thing is is I had only driven it the furthest I had driven it was, of course, I have driven it from the Valley of Salt Lake. Like, I've been I've done a big loop in the Valley of Salt Lake, Parleys Canyon, Provo Canyon, not consecutively, but just, you know, an hour, hour and a half in the bus. We drove to Mirror Lake Highway, you know, maybe, like, 50 miles.

Tyler:

Just just kinda checking out the capabilities.

Danny:

Making sure that

Tyler:

Learning the the new ones. Yeah. Right?

Danny:

We've we've camped in it multiple times. And this has always been my goal is to buy something that Misty and I can go sleep in that, like, is nostalgic. Yeah. Like, I've had a sprinter van. I almost bought a sprinter van, but it it wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

Danny:

Plus, the person that I was gonna buy it from, I'm not stoked on. And so Yeah. I I had that going for me. I bought that bus, and I will tell you, you know, we bought some supplies. We bought some things that we wanted to make sure would make our trip comfortable.

Danny:

Yeah. And so we had this idea that we were gonna leave right after the camp and then drive for a week, hang out, go to a festival in Montana, drive for a couple days home. So do a big loop. Right? Head up to White Sulphur Springs, take our time, Head home.

Danny:

Take our time. Right? We had about 14 days is what we thought we were gonna be in the bus. It ended up being 10 days in the bus, maybe 9, 9, 9 just at 9 days because and I'll tell you why. We leave Sunday, and we have we're originally, we thought we were gonna go to Lava Hot Springs, so we don't even buy supplies.

Danny:

We gas the bus up. We leave, like, around 10 o'clock because we're kinda like, oh, we're only driving to lava, which is just 3 hours.

Tyler:

3 hours. Yeah.

Danny:

Well, our travel companions are like, no. Let's try to make it to Island Park. Okay. Which is

Tyler:

About 5 hours.

Danny:

5 hours. And for Misty and I, we're thinking, okay. We're I I averaged the miles, so it's like 260 miles divided by 45, which would have been about 8 hours. And it's like, man, that's kinda far. So what

Tyler:

if max speed is

Danny:

My max speed is 45. 45. I don't know that yet. I think I can go about 50, 55 when we leave. Because around here, I'm averaging about 50, 55.

Danny:

Right? Yeah. So, we head out and plans get changed. I have to stop and get a fire extinguisher. We're on the road at 11, and we're like, man, it's gonna get hot.

Danny:

Right? So I've never really driven my bus in the heat of the day. I've always been worried about that. Like, it's air cooled. So what happens if I'm driving and it starts to overheat?

Danny:

What do I do? I don't know. I've never had that happen. Yeah. I drive in the morning.

Danny:

Yeah. Or I drive, like, in the park city, and, you know, it's 80 degrees. Yeah. It's never 95. So we check the temperatures, and it's forecast to get 98 Oof.

Danny:

Between Ogden and Pocatello. Right?

Tyler:

So you're on are you not taking 80, are you?

Danny:

We go

Tyler:

80 to 80

Danny:

to I15.

Tyler:

I15.

Danny:

And I jump on I15, and there's no way there's it's windy. Oh, yeah. And and there's a lot a lot of traffic.

Tyler:

Okay. Yeah.

Danny:

And so I'm going 40, 45 miles an hour. Right? And

Tyler:

we Yeah.

Danny:

Do we are getting passed. At one point, we get passed by 2 semis, 1 on the right, and now this is a merge lane. So the the lanes are coming together. 1 on the right, 1 on the left, and I have nowhere to go. Gotcha.

Danny:

And me and Misty are like, oh my god. We're gonna die. I end up slowing down to 30 miles an hour, and this other truck is coming up behind me, and I'm like, we gotta get off the we have to we have to find the back roads. Yeah. So we ended up getting off, having some lunch, regrouping.

Danny:

I look at the map, and I'm like, okay, Misty. These are the roads that we're gonna find. Yeah. We're gonna go from here to here

Tyler:

to here.

Danny:

Well, now mind you, I am not shown her how to navigate. Okay. I tell her this, but she she's looking at a map, and she's like, I don't know what I'm looking at. Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

Yeah. Just look at this, and I'm trying to teach her, and we kind of, like, lose our cool with each other just a tiny bit.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

And I'm like, okay.

Tyler:

Just working through the communication.

Danny:

Let's just just look for this sign, the street sign. Go to start the bus. Bus doesn't start. Oh, no. We've been sitting there for now an hour, so it should have cooled off.

Danny:

Bus won't start. And I'm like, well, I don't know what to do. And I'm pumping the gas, pumping the gas. Bus won't start. So we sat there for another 30 minutes.

Tyler:

Have triple a? Do you have I

Danny:

have triple a. I have roadside assistance, and I have a father-in-law who has said, if you get on the side of the road, call me. I'll go get a trailer, and I'll come get you.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

So I have we have backup.

Tyler:

You you have a you have a you have a you have a backup and a backup to backup. Okay.

Danny:

Man, truth be told, I have an amazing mechanic as well. Yeah. And and and he answers my calls. He answers my texts. I know he gets frustrated with me sometimes.

Danny:

Yeah. And, he I yeah. Yeah. I ended up calling him and being like, hey. This thing ain't starting.

Danny:

You know? And he tells me, okay. It's too hot. The gas is the gas is evaporating before it gets into the carburetor. Hold the gas pedal down.

Danny:

It will start. So I held the gas pedal down, start to turn it up. And we were like, what goodness. So Thank goodness. Thank goodness.

Danny:

Yeah. And that changed our trip because, you know, we would have had to stay and stop for 30, 40 minutes at each stop Mhmm. To let it cool down, try to figure it out. It was such a learning curve for her and I. Yeah.

Danny:

Once we got onto the back roads, we were like, we could do this all day long. Yeah. Yeah. We don't have supplies. Oh, okay.

Danny:

So we have to stop at the grocery store. Right? And I'm like, Misty, let's just stop in Pocatello. Let's just stop. Let's find a campground.

Danny:

Let's hang out there, and we will regroup tomorrow. Yeah. We go to gas we go to the, we go to the grocery store. Mind you, we haven't really eaten very much that day, and everything looks good.

Tyler:

You're hangry.

Danny:

So we buy so much groceries in my mind of, like, we're we don't have ice. We have you know, our coolers Yeah. Aren't ready to be loaded. We have we are we are a nightmare. So we throw everything, the cold stuff in the cooler, not organized ice.

Danny:

We get too much ice, and I'm like, this is we are so flustered at this point. Yeah. Plus, we've been in the bus now for 6 and a half hours, and we still have 2 hours to get to the campground that we pick. Yeah. We ended up to this campground and, dude, we got there, and it was beautiful.

Danny:

Two Rivers got together. We got it was the little tiniest campground. It's called Twin Bridges Campground in Greery Yeah. Yeah. Idaho.

Danny:

It was amazing, dude. So, we cooked dinner, and moose moose are walking through our camp, like, right next to us. It was we were like, this

Tyler:

is insane. Awesome.

Danny:

We, string up lights. We have, the shower that we're gonna we have this, like, portable shower that we're like, oh, we can shower. And Misty's like, hey. I'm kinda ready for that shower. Let's get the water ready.

Danny:

So I pour the water in the bag, go to hang up the shower thing, and I'm like, where the hell am I supposed to hang up this shower? It's just a canopy or a tent looking thing, privacy tent, and it's almost like you have to hold the shower up. It's not it is gravity fed, but the little tube is literally

Tyler:

Yeah. It's It's like a surgical tubing or something like that.

Danny:

Where's the water supposed to come out? Yeah. So what ends up happening, we stand in the shower together, and I'm holding this the the shower above her head. She's, like, low crawling to try to get the water onto her. We are, like, what

Tyler:

Oh, okay. Nightmare.

Danny:

We're so and we're so flustered. And, you know, now we're kind of, like, 9 o'clock at night, and and I'm like, we just need to get some sleep Yeah. Because we we have a 2 hour drive tomorrow. That's all we have, a 2 hour drive. I have a campground scheduled for in the Gallatin Valley.

Danny:

It's on the river. Beautiful. We can sit in the river. We can hang out. We can talk.

Danny:

We can play games.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

We bought games. We bought, stings to paint rocks. We are, like, we are stoked for tomorrow because we have one day travel 2 hours.

Tyler:

2 hours, and then it's mostly Spend the day. Spend the day.

Danny:

Spend the day on the river.

Tyler:

And the most amazing spot. River runs through it.

Danny:

It is. And spot ever. If you've ever been to the Gallatin River Valley, it the river is so clear, so pretty, and the mountains are so cool. It it's it's what you dream of. Yeah.

Danny:

That's in my head, a VW bus driving into Yellowstone. Yeah. How cool would that be?

Tyler:

So cold too.

Danny:

We I am like, tomorrow is going to be a great day. Yeah. Wake up. We start packing things. And mind you, we had forgot our knives.

Danny:

So we bought this knife set, and we both were like, this is crazy. It doesn't even have sheathing on it. It's just a knife with a little tip sheet. Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

Like, we really need to be careful with these things. We need to find some sheets for these things because they're sharp Yeah. For sure.

Tyler:

How sharp are they, Danny?

Danny:

Well, let me tell you, Tommy. We are packing up, and I'm in a you know, I'm on 9

Tyler:

hours of

Danny:

sleep plus some beers the night before. Wake up, and I'm like, so stoked to get to this thing. I set I set the knives on top of a cutting board, on top of my cooler, and I'm going to move. I bump the cooler. The knife slips off the cooler and lands directly on my foot.

Danny:

Oh. Directly on my foot, I looked down, and I'm like, that cannot have just fucking happened.

Tyler:

It it wasn't sticking straight?

Danny:

It went whack. It just it was just like a like a whack.

Tyler:

It bounced off.

Danny:

Fell off. Okay. And I look at my foot, and when I'm like, fuck. This is this is

Tyler:

This is not ideal.

Danny:

This is not going to work. And I'm like, Misty, we need to go to the Instacare because I'm gonna have these stitches. And she comes flying out of the the bus. What? And looks at my foot, and she's like, oh my god.

Danny:

So what I when I tell you it's a 2 inch incision, it's a 2 inch incision. I don't have super glue. Mhmm. I would have super glued the damn thing. Yeah.

Danny:

Yeah. I would have just super glued it. Right?

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah. Steri strips or

Danny:

Yeah, man. I would have done Yeah. We guess what? We don't have. We don't have our first aid kit.

Danny:

We're gonna get that. We had planned to get that before we got to the council. We had said, oh, we don't we need a first aid kit. That night, we decided. Yeah.

Danny:

Dude, so I'm like, I hurry up, wrap my foot, and she's like, what are you doing? And I'm like, well, we need I need to still pack the bus and get going. She's like, her face is kind of pale. Like Yeah. Are we gonna have to go home?

Danny:

What are we gonna do? Is our trip ruined? I'm like, we're good. It just it's going to suck.

Tyler:

It's gonna suck. We're gonna

Danny:

We go to an Instacare in Rexburg. They stitch me up. I got 6 stitches, but no water. Right? They can't get gas soaked.

Danny:

You can't go in the river. By now, it's 12 o'clock before we leave, Pocatello. We still need to get a couple things at Walmart. It's, you know, we're we're we're now in rush hour traffic. Yeah.

Danny:

We get to the camp spot about 1 o'clock, and it's or sorry. It's about 2 to 2:30 when we get to the camp spot. It's as amazing as I imagine in my head. Yeah. It was Good.

Danny:

It was just me and I.

Tyler:

There's some there's some, you know, good good, salvage from the the experience.

Danny:

You know, and we met this lady that she got there, and her the camp spot didn't take credit card. She only had a credit card. So she's like, is there any way I can Venmo you the money and you guys if you have cash? And we said, no. Here.

Danny:

We'll pay for your camp spot. So we paid for her and her 2 kids' camp spot. Her young kid was a fisherman. He was she was fishing till, like, dark where she had to go find him and be like, hey. Where you at?

Danny:

And Yeah. I was like, man, did you find him? There were so many fun things that happened. We had such an amazing trip. We went to Red Ant's pants.

Danny:

We, seen killer artists. We seen, like, we met cool people. We we had such a good time in our bus. And, you know, there's so many stories that I can tell you that are, like, better for later later on. Yeah.

Danny:

But overall, it was exactly what we expected. Ex it it did exactly what we thought. The bus ran amazing. Our relationship, we we survived. We thrived.

Danny:

We're still married.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

We had maybe a couple, like, tone or Yeah. Yeah. With each other, but never like anything crazy. You know, we've seen, we met some cool bands. We met this band, and I'd like to give them a shout out.

Danny:

And I'm wearing their hat. They're called Gold Pine. We talk to them. They're in the crowd with us. That's the cool thing about this festival is the the bands come into the crowd Yeah.

Danny:

And watch the other bands. You meet them and you start talking to them and you realize that they're just people. Right? They live in their van. They're traveling the country.

Danny:

They go and, to festival to festival to festival. But one thing they do is cool. They do house parties.

Tyler:

Oh, wow.

Danny:

So we're telling them where we're from, and they're like, wait. Where are you from? And we're like, we're from Heber City, Utah. They're like, we were just there a week ago. And we're like, no.

Danny:

And they're like, yeah. We literally played a house party a week ago in Heber City, Utah. Yeah. Heber City, Utah. They show us, and they're like, yeah.

Danny:

You know, we ate at Granny's. That's too funny. To, they they were naming these places, and we were like,

Tyler:

whose house party? That's what I wanna know.

Danny:

I know whose it is. I don't have permission to share who it was. Alright. But, yes, they were here in Hebrew. And they were like we sat there and talked to him.

Danny:

Her she did the national anthem the morning of, Saturday morning. No. Friday morning. Yep. Oh, man.

Danny:

My days are coming together. Saturday morning. She did the national anthem, and, dude, nailed it. Me and Misty, both tears rolling down our eyes because it was like, this is amazing. Yeah.

Danny:

You you meet so many cool people that you come together. You're you're in a cow field that everybody's camping together. So you're sharing stories. You're sharing, you're sharing things. You're sharing canopies.

Danny:

You're sharing Yeah. Beers. You're sharing, I I need a mallet. I I need a hatchet. I need I need these things, and you're sharing them with everybody.

Danny:

And you realize what a great thing it is to be, you know, part of this country, part of this country where you can go there freely and experience this without any kind of, you don't have to worry about, like, putting on a show for anyone. Yeah. There's no anger there. There's no fighting. There's no person that, like if as soon as you walk past somebody, if if something happens, oh, excuse me.

Danny:

And they're like, oh, excuse me. And Yeah. And you share these great, things with each other. One of the last funny stories I'll tell you is we get to a you know, we spend a couple of lakes before sorry, a couple of days at a lake before we get to the festival. And I only brought 2 pairs of shoes with me because I only wear flip flops or chakos.

Danny:

Yeah. Right? And my Chaco's are my festival shoes. I wear them because everybody has Chaco's there, and I always like to have Chaco Envy. But I want people to have ChacoEnvy on me as well.

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

And I have a cool pair of Chacos that I'm like, man, people are gonna, like, ask me about these.

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

So we, put on we put our paddle board onto the lake, and I'm it's one paddle board. So Misty's sitting and I'm paddling. And I remember sticking my shoes, my chakos on the boat thinking to myself, I need to hand those to Misty, which is what I normally do. Mhmm. Hand them to Misty.

Danny:

She'll put them away while we get we get taken off. Right? About halfway into this, I looked down, and I'm like, oh my god. I lost one Chaco. Oh, no.

Danny:

It's gone. It's gone. And I'm like, how am I going to tell Misty this? Yeah. And I'm like, hey, Misty.

Danny:

And she goes, what? And I go, I lost, Chaco. She's like, what? And now she looks back, and she's like, why don't you hand them to me? And I was like, I meant to.

Danny:

You know? Good thing that you're saying that now.

Tyler:

Yeah. I meant to.

Danny:

Yeah. And I'm like, I'm I can't wear my flip flop. I'm I'm so bummed now. Yeah. I'm like, nobody's gonna look at my feet and go, dude, killer chocolates.

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

And I'm that's all I'm thinking about, and I'm like, oh, this is such a bad. And I'm like, k. We're gonna find it. I'm gonna find it. I'm gonna find it.

Danny:

The wind is blowing to the east. They flow. Right? Yet they flow.

Tyler:

They flow.

Danny:

We're heading to the east. I said, I'm gonna do a big circle. It's either in the middle, which maybe I won't find, or it's on the shore. So I'm gonna try to take a line a line sort of in the middle. At least I can see the shore.

Danny:

If I can see the shore, I'll see a an object floating

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Near the shore, or it'll be in the middle. Right? And so we're going, and Misty's like, what do you just head back to camp. And I'm like, we're gonna find this shoe. I promise we're gonna find this shoe.

Danny:

She's like, no way. We're not gonna find it. And I was like, we're gonna find it. Find this shoe. I said, I promise you.

Danny:

We're gonna find this shoe. So we're paddling we're paddling, and she's like, come on. We're gonna find it. And then she starts to change her mind, and I'm like, let's just say a prayer. Let's let's let's get our minds right.

Danny:

Have hot happy thoughts. Have positive thoughts. We're gonna find the shoe. Thunder. Lightning.

Danny:

Start. And we're like, the wind picks up, dude. And it's like, we need to get to shore. We need to get to shore fast because here comes a thunderstorm. Yeah.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

So I'm like, we're gonna find it. We're gonna find it. And then we're going, and both of us stay the same time. There it is.

Tyler:

There it is.

Danny:

And it literally is 5 feet in front of us on the line that we're on. It literally five feet in front of us.

Tyler:

That is amazing.

Danny:

We we paddle right to it, grab it, haul ass to shore, thunderstorm starts, and we get in our bus. We're out of the wind. We're out of all the stuff, and we were like and the whole weekend, they kept saying, I cannot believe you found that

Tyler:

shoe, dude.

Danny:

And I was like, what a great experience for myself. You know, I'm glad you let me, yeah, tell that story. It's kinda been a long time. I'll have way more stories. There's lots more things that I think about.

Danny:

Overall, it it it did exactly what it was

Tyler:

supposed to do. Yeah. I think you you mentioned before, like, he was gonna push you and miss you to kinda grow together a little bit. And, you know, you know, there there's some beauty in that conflict, some conflict. Right?

Tyler:

There's some beauty in in in some conflict. So the fact that you 2 were able to

Danny:

Well, we're not kind to each oh, you know, we're kind to each other. Right. There's times when Misty and I have been married for 20 years that we that we take tones with each other that we're like, who are you talking to?

Tyler:

And you got stressed and you got like, you're learning something new. You're out of your element. Like, you're trying to wrangle this bus, which is this dream. And, like, it's it's perfectly normal. And to see that you guys came out of that, you know, unscathed and happier and, like, are you planning another trip soon?

Tyler:

Would you do it again that many miles? Would you

Danny:

yeah. Yes.

Tyler:

You're like, oh, now you've got it down. You feel like, okay.

Danny:

Not that so much, but we yes. We are, planning more trips. The first quick people the first question that people ask me is, will you go that far again?

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Yes. Yes. Every year, we'll take that bus on that same trip, and we'll get better. Yeah. Would I like a Sprinter bus Sprinter van?

Danny:

Yeah. Yeah. For sure. For sure. It would I mean, like, we were able to live in that little small minivan, so we would thrive in a in a beta in a in a Sprinter van.

Danny:

Yeah. We will do some more small trips. We're probably not gonna take it out for a minute because I'm kinda Yeah. A little bust out with, like, driving it. It's very scary at certain times.

Danny:

Crosswinds and, you know, with people hauling ass around you, it's not the funnest. Yeah. Finding the back roads was the key. Finding the back roads, taking the back roads. We didn't do it.

Danny:

On the way home yesterday, but the very end, we came I was like, oh, I've driven 40 a 1000000 times. Yeah. I I thought we were gonna die. It was so windy. We were going 30 miles an hour.

Danny:

Yeah. It was terrifying. I was so frazzled, so over it that I wasn't breathing. My heart rate was a 100 miles an hour. My neck hurt.

Danny:

My back hurt.

Tyler:

You're tense.

Danny:

I'm tense. And, but overall, if you don't take risks, if you don't push yourself to be better, if you don't push yourself to do the things that scare you, you will stay stuck in in in where you're at. Yeah. You want growth. Right?

Danny:

As a man, you want growth. You want to be able to do hard things. You want to have something put you in a position that makes you change, alter your course

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

But doesn't change the fact that you're gonna have a good time. Yeah. And I think in my mind, that's what I want to to push for my for my followers, for my listeners, for my boys, for my friends, for people around me is to be like, hey. Do hard things. If it's not hard, if you get comfortable, then change what you're doing.

Danny:

Yeah. Go out there. Ask the girl out. Yeah. Chase the job.

Danny:

Yeah. Live in your bus if you have to.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

You know, fight back against somebody that takes a tone with you that you do not like. Mhmm. Fight back. Stand up.

Tyler:

Have the boundaries. Have the

Danny:

boundaries. And, ultimately, surround yourself with people that will push you to do things, that will make you better. Yeah. Right? And I believe that I'm a better person now after doing that.

Danny:

And and it's gonna be hard to go back to work because I've been off work for almost 13 days now. Yeah. And I do not wanna go back yet. You know?

Tyler:

So that's kinda hard. I don't blame you. I don't blame you. Sounds like an amazing trip. I'm excited to hear more.

Danny:

It was amazing, bro. Excited

Tyler:

to hear so much more. And, Yeah. I I think it's incredible that you 2 did that trip. Like, I'm very jealous that traveling together, I think, is something that every couple should do Prior probably to getting married or in some form of courtship, like travel together. Learn how that person travels.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Learn learn each other's, like, like, little Yeah. Little ticks. Right? Learn each other's, like, little trigger points.

Tyler:

Because that triggers. Yeah. What are the glimmers? Yeah.

Danny:

Misty and I, you know, we need to remind ourselves of is, like, there's things that that that I'll do that will trigger her for past traumas, and I have to remember that it's not me she's mad at. It's just things that that happened to her, and there's Yeah. Things like vice versa. Like, I had a rough childhood. Yeah.

Danny:

There are there are times when I'm a gruff person that I'm aggressive. Mhmm. And I don't mean to sound aggressive towards her, but something has happened that's triggered me, and now I'm like, wow. Yeah. And it's not her fault.

Danny:

And so she does well most of the time with, like, being like, hey.

Tyler:

That's so that's so impressive. Like, that's a very similar to the the weekend I felt like I had. Right? Like, this we've talked about benevolence towards violence. Sure.

Tyler:

But I I came to this realization. Like, I used to have the stepmom that had this, saying, she said, if you're arguing with an idiot, make sure they're not doing the same thing. Right. And, and I've kind of taken it a step further and like the the the hot term these days is narcissist. Like, we all have narcissistic tendencies.

Danny:

Every one of us.

Tyler:

Right. But if, like, if you're arguing with somebody who has some true cluster b narcissistic personality traits, make sure that that you are not doing the same thing because we have those as well, and they are our own triggers. And so, like, this benevolence towards my own anger and acceptance. And I listened to an incredible podcast between, this amazing therapist and and, Louis Louis House. And and he talks about his four stages of kinda getting over the the trauma, and it's it it was just so fascinating to to, 1, thank thank thank the trauma.

Tyler:

Like, I've never thought about thanking it. Like, think those things that kept you alive. They kept you alive. Sure. Whether they were good for you or bad for you, they kept you alive.

Tyler:

So thank them. 2, you know, understand what they mean. And I'm probably gonna mess mess all of them up. Understand what they mean. Learn what they mean.

Danny:

Learn what they mean.

Tyler:

Learn what they're teaching you, and then re re rehab that experience, reaffirm the experience. So we we thank it, we acknowledge it, and we reaffirm the experience. So if the experience was, I'm not loved, you are loved. Start telling yourself you are loved. And it's like it's interesting.

Tyler:

I just had this rock bottom weekend with arguing with people that just didn't I just didn't need to do. Sure. And I and I was feeling really low about myself, and I'm like, I just had this epiphany that I was just like, I have to be benevolent with my anger as well because my anger leads to the violence. And I and I hadn't really calculated that. I had to make that that self that self correction, but that that's kinda what I wanted to leave with the the podcast with today is just, you know, understand that that that benevolence is needed and not just towards violence.

Danny:

Sure. Yeah. It's interesting with that with that whole idea of of benevolence because, you know, there's finding a way to be kind is is really hard.

Tyler:

And it's not even that I wanted to be like, I had no desire to be kind in in this particular argument.

Danny:

And more importantly, kind to yourself.

Tyler:

Kind to yourself.

Danny:

So so what so what I take from that is, like, understanding that that anger and and violence is is a reality. Yes. And sometimes you get angry with yourself Yeah. Your own self that you're responding

Tyler:

Yes.

Danny:

That you're acting this way.

Tyler:

That I'm reacting

Danny:

And that you've been triggered. Mhmm. So instead of being kind to yourself and, like Yeah. Figuring out those those ways to reframe everything like we talk about is hard in that moment. Yeah.

Danny:

Because it's hard to be kind Yeah. To anybody when you are frustrated, angry, and now violent. Yes. And it does make you feel it gives you that, like, idea of, like, man, I'm just so over it. I'm so rock bottom.

Danny:

I'm so frustrated. And finding ways to let yourself off the hook and then to be kind to yourself, to be understanding of these things is something that I think we all struggle with. One thing that, you know, like, one thing that we would keep saying to ourselves, and I always and then we would we thank you is because when things would go wrong, we'd be like, let's reframe this. Let's reframe how we're looking at this. Let's reframe let's reframe it.

Danny:

Let's let's look at this differently and be like, okay. What let's look at this good.

Tyler:

Or you might tear down one frame and rebuild it another way and, like and realize that, okay. That frame was good for a little bit, but now you've escalated or you've grown, and now you need to go through the process again. Process again. It's it's likely that you're gonna have to go through the process of learning some lessons multiple times.

Danny:

For sure. Yeah. And and I I I believe I agree with you. Like, when you are in moments and you have those weekends and and you have those those miss Cummings or or unfortunate situations with people who who you one once cared about, 2 care about, 3 still have to have relationships with. It's hard.

Danny:

Yeah. It's hard because it's like, man, when is the end of the when is the light at the end of the tunnel be gonna become

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Daylight?

Tyler:

And and and growing up in the in the the with the childhood that I had, the, the negativity and the destruction in my parents' divorce has been imprinted on me. And there's a saying, and I think it comes from there's a TV show or a book, that divorce is divorce is an earthquake for 2 people who used to love each other. But it is a chronic disease for the children who then have to endure it.

Danny:

For sure.

Tyler:

And as a child who had to endure parents who do not like each other to this day, it is it is a burden on those children.

Danny:

Sure.

Tyler:

And and my my personal goal was to never be that. My my goal was to never be divorced. I think, that was probably a very high expectation and unrealistic expectation I put on myself, and I do hold myself to a really high standard.

Danny:

Sure. Still. Still. Even. Yeah.

Tyler:

I'm I'm always I'll be my worst critic

Danny:

till the day

Tyler:

I die until you know? I'm not I'm I'm I'm yeah. I I think that I just knew that I did not want to to have to have that type of relationship. Right? At the same time, I I've learned a lot about who I am.

Tyler:

I've learned a lot about how I, am a recovering people pleaser, how I would allow certain behavior to take place, at my own expense. And I'm no longer I now have a nonnegotiable where I will not allow that in my life. Sure. And and I may not have the best reaction, and I don't wanna be reactionary. I want I I may not have the best reaction.

Tyler:

I may not have all the tools I need to to defend, and I may not defend the right way, but I'm going to defend, you you know, that that nonnegotiable. Sure.

Danny:

And then and then also instill that same concept in your children so that your 50% of what you're giving to your misjudgments. He does things that are wrong. He makes he makes some misjudgments. He does things that are wrong. He makes he makes some poor choices, but he always is there for me.

Danny:

Yep. He always stands up for me. Yep. And he always has my back. 100%.

Danny:

No questions asked.

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah. And it's it's easy to it's easy in divorce for parents to alienate

Danny:

their children. For sure.

Tyler:

And I definitely looking back, I see times where I didn't have much of a voice because, you know, I was very quickly thrust into a position, choose choose a parent. Can you imagine being 8 years old and being in a courtroom and having a judge tell you, pick a parent? No. And you're just terrified that you're gonna upset somebody and you one

Danny:

of them.

Tyler:

And and you're you know, you're just just you're a child. Right? And that's that's very much what I had to experience. And so, you know, you you pick your mother at the expense of your father. You pick your father at the expense of your mother.

Danny:

For sure.

Tyler:

Nobody wins, And and it it you know, one person is is resent. And and to be honest, it wasn't it wasn't my fault. Sure. I didn't choose to be born. I didn't choose to be born to these 2 people, and I didn't choose to be born in this ecosystem.

Tyler:

I had to I have to reframe how how I exist in that ecosystem. So,

Danny:

well and I've always appreciate the, your your willingness to share some of those story because, I mean, we'd like to share more about Yeah. You know, what's going on. And and maybe one day we'll get to that point. But I do believe, like, men struggle with those things because you're not giving the playbook. You're not giving those skills as a man, and we're not giving the idea to share emotions, to be emotional, to to have emotions.

Danny:

Most of the time, you're told to suck it up, toughen up, man up. Don't be pussy. Yeah. Get on get on get on with your life. Yeah.

Danny:

Get on with this. Get on get on with it. Right? And, one one thing that I value about you is that your your willingness to share, emotions and the fact that you sometimes are an open book even if people don't like it. You tell Yeah.

Danny:

You tell what happened. You tell your side of it.

Tyler:

Mhmm.

Danny:

And

Tyler:

And I don't wanna do it at the expense of these other people, but at the same time, I do believe there's a value in telling this story. I think what's interesting, and I'm not I'm not saying this to be poor me, but I think there are men that get into situations where they are abused.

Danny:

Agreed.

Tyler:

They are abused by either a narcissistic partner, by a bipolar partner, by a partner, that has some sort of borderline personality disorder. There are I we could talk about, this this fight with this Craig Jones fight that that he's been hyping with this girl. But, like, there are there are men that that get in in in situations where they become abused, and they cannot talk about it. Right. They cannot talk about it.

Tyler:

Just like they won't that we men generally won't talk about, being sexually abused.

Danny:

Agreed.

Tyler:

Men will definitely not talk about being physically or emotionally or or or abused in in the in that sense. Agreed.

Danny:

Yeah. Yeah, man. That what a what a what a what a topic to cover at another time. Right? Because, man, that's an that can get to a deep dark hole because

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

But but I do agree with you. Like, I know you're not poor me. I know you're not trying to be, like but there are times when you're emotional and you and it is. Like, it does it it is like, yeah. I'm struggling today.

Danny:

Yeah. Yes. I'm struggling today. Yes. I'm struggling today.

Danny:

Yeah. 100 100%. There are times when I'm like, yeah. Today, I'm struggling. Yep.

Danny:

Today, I'm struggling. I if I'm angry, if I'm short with somebody, it's probably because I have some emotion in my body, and I'm not able to process it. I was not given the tools by my parents Yeah. To process these emotions. I'm learning.

Danny:

I'm growing. I'm a project. I'm Right. I'm always a better version of Danny yesterday Yeah. And 10 years ago.

Danny:

I'm not I never looked back at myself and go, man, I wish I could change this. I don't butterfly affect anything. Yeah. But there are times when I'm like, I did not like that version of Danny. Mm-mm.

Danny:

And I'm going to change that today. You know, one thing that Misty and I did that was so cool is every day we prayed, and every day we along our trip, we would, you know, do some sort of, like, talk to God. That's cool. Be like, hey. Thank you.

Danny:

Gladys. Thank you so much. Thank you so much for Yeah. Giving us this life, for showing us the way, for being there for us, and letting us to to put our stress on you Yeah. About about some of the things that we're stressed about.

Danny:

Yeah. And we both, like, it made us a little bit stronger and and build my relationship with God and build my relationship with a higher power that I talk about, you know, and that I think that is important for for us to do because sometimes you just have to put the burden on somebody else.

Tyler:

Yeah. No. And I think that's that's so interesting you say that, putting the burden on somebody else. Like, I spent the the the weekend really soul searching. Right?

Tyler:

I said I hit this rock bottom. I've had this idea for a long time. I've I've been coaching men. I have several men that I've coached and and still continue to coach whether they they're exiting a high demand religion or they're they've they've gone through a divorce. They're generally in a safe safe space.

Tyler:

I want to expand that practice, but what I've realized is that I don't have the toolset that I need to really be impactful. So I have applied to go back and get a master's degree. I'm still on the fence. Do I do I pull the trigger and do this? But I am Sick, dude.

Tyler:

I was accepted to Northwestern. I was also accepted to National University. I'm waiting to hear back from, UVU. Congratulations. Yeah.

Tyler:

Going back and becoming a a licensed marriage and family therapist. Tyler? Yeah. So

Danny:

Dude, Tyler. That is sick, bro.

Tyler:

I just feel like I I there's a saying I used to say. I didn't I didn't I wanted a relationship, not a degree in psychology. Actually, I did want the degree in psychology. I didn't I didn't know it at the time, but, like, when I look at, like, my personality type, when I look at what I'm really passionate about, what I really wanna do, when you take those, like, personality tests, like, they all tend to lead towards, like, either bus driver or therapist. And I'm like, I don't really wanna drive a bus.

Danny:

Be around that many kids.

Tyler:

Yeah. Yeah.

Danny:

Congratulations, bro. That is huge news.

Tyler:

On on top of that, we have another announcement.

Danny:

I'm ready.

Tyler:

You ready for it? We Danny and I have alluded to this for a long time that we have this other project going on.

Danny:

Yeah.

Tyler:

And over the weekend, I just like you said, you were you were pushing yourself to do something big. I met with my one of my mentors that I I that mentors my business, and he said, just do the thing. Just do the thing. So we have soft launched Vessi. Our website is now up for crowdfunding for our contrast spa.

Tyler:

Yeah. So we are in the process of raising funds to to start a sauna slash cold plunge here in Heber. And we have some

Danny:

To develop a space Yeah. For people to come, to learn, to to have Yeah. The ability to learn with somebody of of how contrast therapy helps benefits to have to be able to to teach you the things that Tyler and I talk about Yep. And and to give a space where it's not it's not like a, where where you want it to be a community.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Exactly. Knows your name like Norm.

Tyler:

Exactly. Everybody knows your name. And and and to be honest, like, what we've been trying to accomplish with the podcast and and your breath work, like, we want this to be a community. Right? So the ideal space will have, you know, an 8 person sauna, hot sauna with a a smaller 4 person hot sauna as well, so if you want a more intimate setting.

Tyler:

And then we're hoping for an 8 person cold plunge. If you wanna get in, you wanna help us build this dream, you absolutely can get on spavesi.com. You can join the founders club. We have several different crowdfunding packages available.

Danny:

We put some serious effort into this.

Tyler:

Serious thought in into doing this. We're asking for for for your help. If you want us help the podcast, if you wanna help, Danny and I realized this dream, it's Vessey. It's finished for water. And I'm I couldn't be more excited about the things that we've got going on.

Tyler:

Yeah.

Danny:

Our trajectory is always Yeah. We're always going up. We have little bumps in the road, but our trajectory is up. Our stock is constantly rising.

Tyler:

Right? And and and and part of this is this is part of this is a fuck you to the, Zermont who who

Danny:

changed their

Tyler:

They changed everything. They changed their sauna policies, and we haven't been able

Danny:

to get in.

Tyler:

It's been months since I've had a sauna. And, I'm It's

Danny:

getting rough.

Tyler:

I'm needing a heat. The one at the hot hotel the new park was sorry.

Danny:

It was. Yeah. It was bummer. It

Tyler:

was, like, 40 degrees inside there.

Danny:

Man, I appreciate you. Yeah. Appreciate you. Let's see. So, the yes.

Danny:

Goes come just look at it. Just see what you think about the the one more time on the

Tyler:

Danny:

We're working with, some potential people that have businesses in the area that want to offer this opportunity to their business. So

Almost like as a as a gym membership where you would go and you'd be able to they would they would pay for your, your your membership to our to our club or to our to our wellness center. Yeah. Yeah. We're we're excited about what's going on. Yep.

Danny:

And come see us at Park City jiu jitsu. Yeah. I'll tell more stories as we go on. I've got so many. It it would have taken 2
